Module 1: Niching
In this module, you’ll learn how to define what sets you apart from the crowd as a healthcare professional. You’ll nail down your niche and solidify your media goals—and even create ideas to pitch to editors and producers based on your special sauce.
Module 2: Ideal Avatar
In this module, we’ll teach you how to pinpoint what your audience wants and how to identify your ideal avatar. We’ll walk through the methods—including surveying your audience—to ID your ideal avatar. You’ll walk away with a crystal-clear picture of who your avatar is and content ideas that speak to your avatar.
Module 3: Being an Expert
You’ll learn how to connect and speak to reporters in a way that will get you featured in articles. You’ll learn how to pitch yourself as an expert source, how to be a great source that reporters come back to again and again, and how to be fluid in an ever-changing media landscape. A former editor for Prevention and Women’s Health will review your soundbites.
Module 4: Talking to Media
Now that you’ve landed the interview, what happens? We’ll teach you how to perfect the art of talking to the media (aka the soundbite) and how to use the media that you land to secure more and more interviews. Together, we’ll workshop written soundbites.
Module 5: Broadcast Media
You’ll learn the ins and outs of TV, radio, and podcast interviews. Learn how to pitch yourself to producers, how to contact those producers, and how to prepare for any type of interview. You’ll craft a pitch to a producer, write a segment, and have the opportunity to film a sample TV segment.
Module 6: Freelance Writing
We’ll teach you how to connect with assigning editors, how to craft the perfect pitch, and how to nail the freelance writing assignment. You’ll create a pitch to an editor that’s perfect for your niche and speaks to your ideal customer avatar. A former Prevention and Women’s Health editor will review your freelance pitches.
Module 7: Profiting from Media Work
Now comes the really fun part: income! You’ll learn how to leverage your media experience to build your brand—and how to profit from any type of media, as well as sell yourself through a media kit. You’ll walk away with a ready-to-use media kit, too, that a professional designer (who created the website for The Home Edit!) helps you create.
Module 8: Spokesperson Work
We’ll teach you what being a spokesperson means, the ins and outs of paid brand partnerships, and how to pitch and reach out to brands. You’ll also learn what brands look for in partners and what types of services they want. You’ll craft a pitch to a potential brand partner, which we’ll help you perfect.
Module 9: Profiting from Social Media
You’ll learn how to monetize your social media platforms—as well as how to use them to share and leverage your media wins. We’ll walk through Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Facebook, LinkedIn, and more. Then you’ll decide what platforms to focus on first.
Module 10: Profiting from Blogging
We’ll teach you how to monetize your blog and e-mail list, how to create engaging content that brings back repeat customers, and the basics of SEO and e-mail marketing. You’ll walk away with content ideas to pitch to brand partners, too.
Module 11: Earning Your Worth
Hooray! Now that you’re a media-trained health professional, you’ll learn what services you should be paid for, brand partnership ins and outs, and how to negotiate what you’re worth. You’ll walk away with a list of paid services that you can uniquely offer to potential brand partners.
Module 12: Contracts
When working with brands and certain types of media, you’ll need to protect yourself legally. We’ll teach you the ins and outs of contract negotiations, name and likeness, exclusivity, whitelisting, and more. You’ll practice interpreting contract terms so you have the legal stuff nailed down for when you land those paid brand partnerships.
